Auto Glass Across West Oak Lane and the Cheltenham Line

Most of this list is a five to fifteen minute drive. The shop sits on Ogontz Avenue a few blocks below the Cheltenham Avenue city line, which puts West Oak Lane, Ogontz, East Oak Lane, Cedarbrook, Stenton, Fern Rock, Mount Airy, Chestnut Hill, Wyncote and Melrose Park within easy reach of the door. Six more towns sit above the line along Old York Road and Easton Road — Cheltenham, Elkins Park, Jenkintown, Abington, Glenside and Willow Grove — generally twelve to twenty-five minutes out. Windshields run $250 to $450 fitted. Door and back glass is $200 to $500. A chip fill is $60 to $130. Dial 215-608-1108 and say where you are parked.

Everything on the Philadelphia side of this list either runs onto Ogontz Avenue or crosses it somewhere. West Oak Lane and the Ogontz corridor are close enough that people hand over the keys and walk home for the hour. Cedarbrook is immediately north, up toward where Stenton Avenue meets Cheltenham Avenue. East Oak Lane lies a short run east over Broad Street, and Fern Rock is the other way, south along Ogontz to where it lands on Broad by the transportation center. Mount Airy arrives on Washington Lane or Stenton Avenue in around ten minutes, and Chestnut Hill is another ten beyond that up Germantown Avenue — the Belgian block and the old trolley rail still set into that stretch being one reason Chestnut Hill chips so often turn up already running. Dropping the car beats waiting with it here. A windshield occupies it for roughly an hour plus its cure, and there is an avenue full of somewhere to be in the meantime.

Cheltenham Avenue is the city line, and the six towns above it are near enough that distance is rarely what decides anything. Melrose Park and Elkins Park sit on Old York Road a couple of minutes over; Wyncote is west of it around Greenwood Avenue and Church Road; Jenkintown follows. Abington and Willow Grove continue north on Old York Road, twenty minutes or so when the lights cooperate, and Glenside is on Easton Road, which climbs north from the Cheltenham Avenue end. What changes above the line is not the drive but the parking: driveways and open lots instead of permit blocks, which happens to be the one condition a mobile fit depends on — clear room beside the car and dry air to bond in. Below the line, with the car at a curb and a bus going by the mirror, coming to Ogontz Avenue is usually the faster answer. The counter is open 9 to 5 Monday through Saturday and closed all day Sunday, so a Saturday-night break-in means plastic taped over the opening and a Monday morning phone call. 215-608-1108 gets you a straight answer on which of those applies to you.
