West Oak Lane parks outdoors and parks close. The blocks either side of Ogontz and Chew are porch-front rows and twins, a few with a driveway cut down the side and most without, so the car spends the night at the kerb under a street tree with the whole block walking past it. Damage here is found rather than witnessed. You come out at seven, the driver window is gone into the seat rails, and somebody has already swept the tempered glass into a neat pile against the kerb.
The other half of it is mileage. This is a commuting neighbourhood: cars run down to Broad Street or out to Cheltenham Avenue five mornings a week, collect their stone chips there, then sit still for four days while nobody looks at the glass. A star picked up in November is a crack across the driver's eyeline by the first hard frost. Being on Ogontz at 68th means most of that gets dealt with the same day instead of booked for next week. Call in the morning, the glass gets ordered while you are still on the phone, and for common cars it is often back on the road by the afternoon. Bring cash, and bring it in notes that are easy to break.
Ogontz Avenue is the spine of the neighbourhood, running from Broad Street up to Cheltenham Avenue and stopping dead at the county line, and the shop sits on it at 68th Avenue. Chew Avenue runs parallel on one side and Stenton Avenue on the other, with the numbered avenues, 66th, 68th, 70th, 72nd, crossing all three. Those three arterials carry the buses and the delivery traffic, so they get opened for utilities, patched, and opened again, and the ride along them is a run of small hard knocks rather than smooth road. Washington Lane cuts across on the diagonal toward Germantown, and Limekiln Pike leaves the top of the neighbourhood into Cheltenham Township. In between, the side streets are narrow, parked solid both sides, and roofed over by mature trees that shed limbs in a summer storm.
“While driving on Lincoln drive something hit my driver window and my entire window broke into tiny pieces 😩 scariest thing ever! I went to this glass and mirror repair shop around 3;30-4pm. Told the owner my story. He got right on the phone to order my glass and told me he will call me tomorrow morning so I could drop my car off. Keeping his word , He called me 1st thing in the morning to drop my car off and told me it would be ready within the next hour. He called me an hour later to pick up my car! My window looks great as if nothing ever happened! Super fast and cheap! I have a 2015 kia Optima $190 to fix. I am very happy and will be sending folks his way! Black owed as well!!”
Break-ins first, and it is not close. A side window on a dark block goes in a second or two, and the glass ends up in the door skin, the seat runners and the heater vents rather than on the street. Second, stone off the working avenues. Ogontz, Chew and Stenton are patched, cut and cambered, and a chip off a loaded tyre at thirty miles an hour is a mark you will not hear arrive. Third, the trees. This neighbourhood has real canopy, and a limb coming down on a car parked at the kerb takes a windshield or a back glass with it. Fourth, the winter habit: frozen screen, defroster on full, scraper in hand, and a $60 to $130 repair becomes a $250 to $450 replacement before you have left the block.
For most of West Oak Lane you are already on the right street. Ogontz Avenue runs the length of the neighbourhood, and we are on it at 68th Avenue, so come up from the Broad Street end or down from Cheltenham Avenue and watch the numbers. From the Chew Avenue blocks, take 68th or 72nd Avenue across to Ogontz. From up near the county line, drop down Ogontz from Cheltenham Avenue and it is under a mile. From the Stenton Avenue side, Washington Lane runs straight across to Ogontz. If you can walk home from here, leave the car and we will ring you when it is finished.

Plan on cash. This has always been a cash shop, and the one thing worth knowing before you come is that change is not always sitting in the drawer, so bring notes that are easy to break rather than one large one. The price is agreed before anything is touched: $60 to $130 for a chip fill, $250 to $450 for a fitted windshield, $200 to $500 for door, quarter or back glass. Nothing gets added while the car is in the bay.
You can, and plenty of West Oak Lane people do, but ringing first is faster for you. Most jobs wait on the glass rather than on us, so a call to 215-608-1108 with the year, make, model and the VIN if you have it lets the part get ordered before you arrive. Chip fills are usually a wait-for-it job of about half an hour. Windshields are better as a drop-off.
Tape plastic or a bin liner across the opening from the inside, corner to corner, and leave the inside of the car alone. Vacuuming it yourself pushes tempered glass deeper into the door and the seat runners, and it has to come out again anyway. Ring at nine on Monday. Side glass is $200 to $500 fitted, common models are usually same day, and clearing the channel inside the door is part of the job rather than an extra.
Tell us the vehicle and the glass that's damaged — you'll see your price instantly, and we'll hold it for you.
