The slow part of replacing a side or rear pane is never the fitting, it is establishing exactly which pane you need. Two cars that look identical from the sidewalk can take different glass: one door built around a fixed rear quarter and the other around a drop-down, a rear screen with the radio aerial printed into it and one without, a factory tint on the higher trim and clear glass on the lower. Get that wrong and the car sits another two days with plastic taped over the hole. We settle it on the phone from the year, make, model and trim, and where there is genuine doubt we ask you to read a number off the glass still in the car.
Almost all of this glass is toughened, so it never simply cracks. The moment it lets go it drops into thousands of blunt little cubes. They go everywhere: down inside the door skin, into the seat rails, under the rear parcel shelf, into the spare wheel well. A quick sweep of the seat is not the job. The door cavity is vacuumed out properly, because cubes left behind rattle down the inside of a door for the rest of the car's life and can foul a window regulator.
